You can never have too much glitter in your life, that’s for sure!
Today I thought I would share my latest addiction with you: edible ‘glitter’ sugar! Although it’s not as sparkly as the stuff you buy in the shops, this magic sugar tutorial is really cheap and you can make up a batch in any colour you can think of… oh, and it tastes amazing too!
All you need is caster sugar, food colouring and tinfoil… you don’t even need to leave home!
Start by putting in a couple of tablespoons of sugar into a small bowl. You can make as much or as little as you like, but it’s easier to start small with this diy. Add in a couple of drops of food colouring and mix it / rub it in. It’s best to do this with your hands so you get everything properly colored in.
From here, you can add in more sugar to make the color lighter, or more food coloring to make it darker – it just depends on what shade you’re going for 🙂

Line a baking tray with some tinfoil and spread out the pretty colored sugar so it’s as thin as you can make it. Pop it in the oven at 150 degrees celsius for about 10-12 minutes. This will make the liquid evaporate and leave you with some super cute sugar!
When you take it out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes before touching it as it’ll be really hot. Then just break up the clumps with your fingers and you’re ready to go!
You can store your sweet treat in a little tub for sprinkling on everything later or pop it in a cute tea cup and put it on the table for everyone to use at your tea party 😀 Seriously, It’s so versatile that you’ll never use white sugar again!
Note:
If you take the sugar out of the oven too soon, it may be a little too wet and sticky. In this case, pop it back in for a couple more minutes till it comes out rather dry.
If left in for too long, the sugar will melt down into a sirup so make sure to keep an eye on it!

Hooray!

I hope you have a lot of fun experimenting with this recipe. I’ve made it in several colours and it never gets boring. My latest concoction is the green one, which is strawberry flavored 😀 For that you just add in a couple of drops of flavoring to the sugar before adding in the colouring. Perfect for halloween!
You can even have a go at doing it with salt, which would be the perfect finishing touch for salted caramel treats. I’m in love!
Enjoy…
