Earlier this month I hot footed it up to Dundee to attend The Gathering Five, an evening held by Scot Street Style for Scottish bloggers to meet, greet and bounce off each others amazing energy… But before the evening even began, there was so much fun to be had meeting Karen Mabon at her pop up shop and discovering the most amazing vintage spectacle shop Spex Pistols thanks to a guided tour of the city from Wardrobe Conversations. Needless to say, there is never a dull moment when Helen and Kim are around!
The day began at Time Boutique, a beautiful little gift shop in the heart of Dundee which was hosting a special Karen Mabon pop up shop that *unfortunately for my purse* tied up with the Gathering Five event perfectly. As you will have seen from my earlier blog post, I’m a big fan of Karen’s designs, so this had ‘expensive day out’ written all over it!
There were so many beautiful scarves and accessories out on display and I couldn’t resist trying on her beautiful Prize Poodle one because matched my outfit perfectly! I actually purchased the Taco Nights scarf because I’d been eyeing it up for some time, but I have every intention of adding this one to my collection as soon as I can. It was really fun to meet Karen at the event too, she’s a real sweet heart with a brilliant sense of humour, it’s no wonder her designs are selling like hot cakes!
Next on the agenda for the day was a visit to Spex Pistols, my new favourite spot for all things wing tipped! I think I must have tried on about 20 pairs of amazing glasses in this shop – it’s a real treasure trove for vintage spectacles and 100% worth visiting. Richard who runs the shop is a lot of fun and very happy to let me spend my time picking out my favourites. I’ll be going back very soon to get mine re-lensed and I might have sneaked a pair aside to pick up later too… More on that later I’m sure! During my visit also I spotted this amazing picture in his shop. I think I’ve found ‘Future Vicky’! Isn’t she the coolest?
After all the fun of our grand day out, we still had the main event to attend. After popping over to True Pizza Co for the best veggi pizza I’ve had in forever, we made a hop skip and jump up to the DCA where The Gathering FIVE was being held. It was so exciting to see so many Scottish bloggers in one space – who knew there was so many of us? The gallery had opened up it’s exhibition room too, so not only did we fill out the top floor, we got to wander around and check out the art as well – what a treat! Stylish Scotland was out by force; there was a lot of amazing outfits, impressive beards and vibrant hair. What more could you want in an evening?
I had such a great time with my favourite girlies and hanging out with the incredibly beautiful Cynthia of Skittlish Fashion, which I’m really excited to have discovered is a fellow Edinburger. Being around so many creative people definitely gives you a buzz and makes you want to do more. If you ever get the chance to come to one of these events you wont regret making the journey – everyone was so super lovely and friendly, it was brilliant!
Gordon Millar, the brains behind Scot Street Style and The Gathering knows how to throw one seriously great party. It was really lovely to finally meet him in person after following each other for some time via Instagram. He’s currently working on an incredible new book, #ONWARD, focusing on all the incredible Scottish talent we have. It’s was really inspiring to hear him talk so passionately about how Scotland is being overlooked in the stylish, artistic & creative departments and how he wants to turn that around. It’s phenomenal how he’s helped support and create this new community and I’m really excited to have become a part of it – I foresee so many exciting projects and collaborations in the near future!
I’m proud to say that I’ve backed his Kickstarter fund to get the book made and there is still time to get involved and support the movement if you’re interested. Find out all about it here and be sure to keep up to date with Scot Street Style (and their exciting events happening in the future – everyone is invited!) here. I’m looking forward to blogging all about the book and the launch night when it comes around, so watch this space!
