Today launches Edinburgh’s incredible Hidden Door Arts Festival and I can tell you all now, we are in for one heck treat! For those of you who follow my blog, you would have seen my post about last years amazing celebration of local talents and I am so thrilled to see that it’s back… and bigger and better than ever!
Wednesday evening brought a super fun peek behind the scenes of the construction site at their new location in the Grassmarket. It’s in the most inspiring courtyard of derelict buildings and empty spaces in town… I’ve lived here for most of my life and I didn’t even know this place existed! It’s taken a team of over 100 volunteers just 2 weeks to completely transform the place into an artistic wonderland. Not only are there rooms full of mind blowing-ly phenomenal art installations, but there is also a killer program full of music, theatre and dance performers as well as cinema showings occurring throughout the 9 day festival. It is insane!!
Hidden bars, hidden art, hidden beauty and bursting full of ideas, Hidden Door is worth making the journey to visit and supporting to make sure it comes back again and again. You can see the full program of events here, but the one’s I have bookmarked include the Victorian Trout Conspiracy, Twelfth House, Macbeth In Silence, Creative Electric – Treat, and the Bevvy Sisters. An eclectic collection which is bound to bring a lot of fun!
So if you’re looking for something totally out of this world to do over the Bank Holiday weekend, be sure to see what’s happening in bonnie Edinburgh. Even if you don’t stay for a show, this space will be open to the public for adventuring through the art spaces, which if you ask me, is worth the trip alone. Oh, and did I mention it’s FREE?! Heck yes! If you want to help support these incredible makers you can donate to the event there, buy a ticket and help spread the word. Being non profit and paid for by the people involved we want to make sure we keep up the support. Get involved by getting along and tell your friends – you wont regret it!
Hidden Door runs from the 22nd to the 30th May and is based in the courtyard just off Kings Stable Road (FYI, that’s just 2 seconds from the main Grassmarket area and 5 minutes from Princes Street)
Hope to see you there!
PS! Check out their home brew beer!
PPS! Big thank you to my girl Fiona Anderson for taking the portrait of me!
