This section of my birthday month has been full of girlish glee! It’s weird, I didn’t go about planning a full on Girls Girls Girls week, but looking through the screes of pictures I’ve taken, it appears that subconsciously the last few days have been all about celebrating femininity. Go me! What a fun way to spend a week!
My weekend kicked off with a full on girl gang sleep over in my new flat. Helen, Kim and Lynsay all came round to help me break the place in, which I’m proud to share involved everyone eating their favourite food (yep, I cooked 4 different dinners, but they were all quick and easy with very little ‘cooking’ involved!), chomping on a ton of sweet treats, watching The Little Mermaid and The Shining (a crazy combination, but two of my favourite films!) and a healthy dose of laughter and gossiping. We don’t all get together like this very often, so we always make up little goodie bags full of gifts for each other when we do. I was so in love with this Ella Masters tote bag I had to get them for all my ladies. Isn’t it the cutest! It’s fun spoiling my friends, it’s nice to see them smile and love the same things I do. I hope the next sleepover isn’t too far away. I don’t care what anyone thinks, you’re never too old for these!
The next morning we met up with Edinburgh’s photography dream team Mint & Chillies for a lovely end of summer Girl Gang shoot. You may recal we did a Halloween shoot last year, but since we’ve all been embracing bright and colourful tooty fruity outfits lately we thought it would be fun to do something totally different. Paulina has taken absolutely beautiful pictures of us all, which I’m really looking forward to share with you later in the week. Needless to say I am channeling my inner Carmen Miranda!!
After recovering from all the fun of the weekend, Tuesday brought Anna and Harriet round to my flat for my first ever Crafternoon. That’s right, I’ve decided that I’m going to have crafternoons round at my place as often as possible! Making things with your favourite people makes you so much more productive and proud of your creations. These ladies are really inspiring and supportive and I know we’re going to have so much fun having these evenings in the run up to christmas. Think of all the amazing handmade gifts we’ll be making!
Harriet made this first date extra special too – she went above and beyond in buying me a birthday and housewarming gift… she bought me DREAM PHONE! Can you believe it? And it works and it has all the parts. It’s the best gift ever! This was the game I always wanted to play but never had the chance to in my youth. The one that got away! Don’t worry, we’ve already planned another full on slumber party to play it. Pillow fights, popcorn and ear pearcings (haha, I’m defo channeling Frenchie from Grease for this party!) Incase you were wondering, Dream Phone is the closest you’ll ever get to finding me on Tinder. Take that modern day life!
On Thursday I adventured through to Glasgow to see Lynsay (I hadn’t had enough girl time with her over the weekend!) and we went along to Kiehl’s to celebrate Glasgow’s finalists of the Icon Awards. There were boozy slushies, preformers and burlesque performers at the party, which made for a truely fabulous night. Glasgow sure knows how to party, I miss living there a lot!
Phew! Almost done!
On Friday I paid a very special visit with my mum to my Nonna’s house (that’s grandmother incase you’re unsure). She wanted to give me a housewarming gift and let me tell you right now, this one really did bring a tear to my eye. My greatest childhood memories were spent round at my Nonna’s having big dinners with all our family every Sunday. I’ve been in love with this clock ever since, as it sat at the head of the table and it’s been so prominent in my life. To be given it for my new home has really touched me; I hope I can one day continue the family tradition of massive Sunday sit downs. No pressure, am I right!
What a heck of a week! These ladies are all so special in my life, each one full of humor, smarts, beauty and incredible levels of kindness, support and love. Women are totally under-rated.
There was only one way to celebrate the end of such a fab fem fest; a good old knees up at The Burlesque Ball! Kim and I headed to the Voodoo Rooms for an evening full of beautiful women shaking their money makers and making us all want to learn how to look so sexy taking off tights. Towards the end of the show I got persuaded to go up onto the stage for a ‘best dressed’ competition and (even in my rather intoxicated state) I won! 31 and winning beauty contests – I’m feeling pretty darn proud of myself right now hee hee!
So week three of my birthday bonanza may be over, but I’m feeling totally overwhelmed by the greatness of women in my life. I plan on having more girly weeks like this in the future; you can’t be glum or start doubting yourself when you’re surrounded by such incredible women!
I’ll be sharing photos from our Girl Gang summer shoot super soon, you’re going to love them. Next week I’ve got so much on … even a surprise trip to London! I can’t actually believe that one, it’s a bit mind blowing. I don’t want to spoil anything but rest assured, more to come asap!
Hope you find time to celebrate your femininity this week, trust me, you will feel like a goddess afterwards. Embrace your homegirls ladies!!
