To me, nothing says ‘Best Day Out Ever’ than a date with my all time favourite Girl Gang. This time we’ve met in Edinburgh to celebrate Helen -aka Miss Jolly Good– birthday, and to us the only way to party involves ice cream, cake and shopping…
I love meeting my girls Wardrobe Conversations and Miss WestEnd Girl because it gives me a great reason to get all dressed up for our shenanigans. Given my passion for dressing in themes, I decided to embrace a look fit for a birthday… say hello to my new funfair inspired get up!
Rocking my John Rocha dress from the kids department *being little has a lot of upsides!* polka dot cardi from H&M and diamond tights from Forever21, the only way to knock this outfit out of the park was to take my my new ice cream heels out for a spin. These incredible bad boys are Melissa x Karl Lagerfeld heels which even I can’t believe I found at TK Maxx for a fraction of the price. Aren’t they just phenomenal?! Lessons in today’s outfit include: don’t be frightened to shop in the kids department if you’re little like me and always put aside a little time to rummage in TK Maxx, you’ll save a fortune and create a look that no one else will have in your age group heehee!
The plan for the day involved a wander round the Grassmarket where we popped into one of our favourite local shops, Hannah Zakari for a mini haul. Weirdly enough, when I worked for Portfolio Magazine this space was my office so I get quite nostalgic whenever I go in! Given the awesome collection of jewellery and accessories, it’s hard not to visit in here and leave empty handed. Over the year’s I’ve collated a handsome collection of goodies thanks to Rachel stocking a few of my favourite designers such as Stay Home Club, Rosita Bonita, Mel Stringer and Kate Rowland. It’s a magical mystical place that’s always worth a visit, but for those too far away to drop by you can find the online shop here. Bookmark it now because it’s a great place to find gifts for your besties (though you might have to adopt a ‘one for me one for you’ policy)
The afternoon brought us tea and cake at the marvellous cafe Spoon, which is a great place to spend a couple hours chatting. It’s not very often we 4 get to meet up, so we always like to get a good natter in before we have to depart again. Having a cafe to call home when together is definitely a necessity when with your girlies – especially one that looks so cute! They have a delicious breakfast and serve an amazing hot chocolate, which is pretty much all you need before getting ready to hit the town…
Which brings me to Part Two of Helen’s Birthday Shenanigans – it involved my first ever trip to a roller rink, which was as much nerve wracking as it was hysterical… Don’t worry, I’ll post all about the occasion so you don’t miss out!
Until then, hope you have fun with your girlies — and maybe you could try experimenting with a funfair inspired outfit of your own!
Candy floss kisses and birthday balloons for everyone
