Hooray! On Saturday the 6th of June, myself and fellow Edinburgh Etsy Team leaders Fiona, Zyzanna and Dodo hosted our 2nd annual Etsy Craft Party and it was an absolute blast! Taking place in my home away from home, Paradise Palms, we held a 25 person collage party full of weird and wonderful images, textured papers, cups of candy and a splash of booze… the perfect way to meet a bunch of strangers and hang out for the afternoon if you ask me!
For those of you who don’t know, Etsy encourage the creative makers to all throw a big party every year on the same day all across the world in celebration of everyones crafty greatness. If you’re an artist of any kind, you’ll probably find that you dont get the chance to collaborate and meet likeminded people that often, so we think this is such a fun way to start a gathering and get everyone talking. With people of all ages and abilities joining us, it’s really cool to see everyone hanging out and getting involved, and needless to say, you can learn a lot about a person with the collages they make!
After the success of our party last year, we decided to make this event a bit bigger which makes things a little more challenging, but it was definitely worth the work! Paradise Palms was such a great venue for making because the space is rammed full of amazing things to look at and it has such a great vibe. Choosing the right location is really important with these sorts of things! We were lucky to have a really large space in the bar and some great lighting, making our lives so much easier. Between that, phenominal bar staff and the best team ever helping us pull it all together, I’m really proud to share that it was a total success (not that I’m super cocky or anything!!)
Check out some of our lovely guests and their works of art! Something else, right? I have to admit I have a few favourites and some great ideas for creating mini masterpieces for inside my studio. We have quite a lot of scraps left over so I’m certainly not short for content!
What I loved about this year’s party is that people could be so creative with what they were doing. Some made posters, some artworks for their home, and others created their own set of cards to send out for birthdays and thank you’s etc. Seeing people bloom from lack of restriction is a really wonderful outcome from creative gatherings. Being able to bounce off each others ideas and creativity encourages people to come out of their comfort zone and experiment with new things. If you’re ever facing a creative block, throw your own craft party with your besties – the ideas will come flooding in and good times will be had all round!
We’d love to say a big, BIG thank you to Paradise Palms, all the bar staff, and everyone who came out and partied with us. We had such a great time and we can’t wait to throw another next year. Hope you can all come out and play with us again soon!
