I Love Yayoi Kusama! At her recent retrospective in Copenhagen I got the chance to get stuck right in to her installations and take a little peep into her world of polka dots and weird sculptures. And let me tell you now, I have never been so thrilled in my life! It’s rare you go to an exhibition and get more blown away with each room you step into. Just when you think it can’t get any better – BAM! Glowing lights and inflatables. Get in!
What I adored the most about this show was the extreme level of interaction. So many things to peep into, you get given a sticky dot to add to one of the installations, and there’s even a room where only one person is allowed to enter at a time to experience it’s magic. What inspired me the most as Yayoi has shown the world that nothing is ‘too crazy’. If you have an idea, how big can you make it? And how bright and beautiful? Because if you can dream it up, you can do it. And if you go whole hog and really get that idea out into the world the way it’s conceptualised in your little noggin, people will love it as much as you do.
So, no matter what you’re dreaming about, take a page out of Yayoi’s book and start making it a reality. Whether it’s art based, writing, fashion, design, or even wanting to get more enjoyment out of how you make food, do it with passion, enthusiasm, personality and a whole lot of fun. Because if you do it straight from the heart, everyone is going to love it, especially you.
