Ahoy there sailors! This month has seen the launch of uber awesome brand Abandon Ship‘s Kewtie range and, being a fan of all things retro, rockabilly and tattoo-chique, this has got to be one of the best executions of old-school style with a modern twist that I’ve seen in an age. Fat babies with tacos? How can you not love that?!
For anyone who is new to Kewpie, I’d love to introduce you. This little feller was created back in the 1900’s as a cute way to advertise everything from Jello to Kodak cameras. He’s always chubby, naked and has those big adorable eyes and rosy cheeks. He became a tattoo hero back in the 1950s where people embraced inkings of them getting into all kinds of mischief, and it’s really incredible to see them becoming more popular again today. I’ve noticed a lot of these inkings coming up on my instagram account and I’m starting to become super obsessed . . . Look at that face! When I met Amanda (aka Honey Pop Kisses) of Abandon Ship at London Edge and saw what she had been working on it was clear I couldn’t contain my excitement!
This limited edition capsule collection has been created especially for their league of lady fans. With kewties rocking everything from pretzels, sailor suits, watermelons and mermaid tails, the fabric is really playful and fun yet not too overwhelming. I’ve got my eye on the little tee and pencil skirt and which I know are going to go really well with each other, with high waisted trousers or with a little rock n roll t shirt respectively. With a skater skirt, bralette and incredible pair of knickers, I foresee my next wish list being bombarded with the collection! And for the gents who’d hate to miss out, you can still get involved with the action with the new range of fat baby patches, engraved wooden phone cases and that brilliant taco baby T-shirt that you know I’d be stealing for bedtime!
The launch party was held in Glasgow’s Blythwood Square hotel which I have been desperate to visit since I lived in the city. It’s pretty much the trendiest hotel in town and it’s where all the rock n rollers stay after playing their gigs (If it’s good enough for the Foo Fighters, it’s good enough for me!!) Inside is jaw dropping beautiful, and with the cocktails flowing and spa staff at the ready to treat us all to Ishga hand massages we really were spoiled. Coupled with hairstylist Lana May whipping up beehives and victory rolls for guests and Sacha giving the girls manicures with DIY Nails kewpie nail decals, you can imagine how much we all wanted to stay there for the rest of our days…
And the icing on the cake has got to be the Bygone Photobooth Company who had set up a photo booth for us gals to abuse all night long. As you can imagine, with this girl gang in toe we were definitely going to take full advantage of their services! If I ever have a party, event or generally anything where I’m going to have a bunch of people that I love to pieces around I’m going to hire this incredible team to capture the moment. There’s an old school camera, a countdown clock and a whole treasure chest full of trinkets and treats to play with during your photo shoots. Is it wrong that I’m getting excited thinking back on this? I think I have a problem haha!
I’ve *already* ordered a couple of pieces from the collection, so keep your eye out for an outfit post to see how I wore mine as soon as they arrive. To get a piece of action for yourself, visit Abandon Ship online shop and snap up your favourites fast – with there only being a limited run and total obsessives like myself, you’ll be gutted to miss out!
Tubby babys for life!
