On Friday the new Cambridge Satchel Company pop up shop opened on George Street in Edinburgh and it is jam packed full of the most amazingly colourful bags and accessories and it’s official; I am in love! The event was really busy, which I’m not surprised by because I can’t think of anyone who hasn’t got a crush on these adorable school book bags. I was really excited to bump into some fellow Edinburgh Bloggers like Abby and my Edinburgh Etsy Team Co. Captain Fiona Heather with her photographer husband David Anderson during the night. Aren’t they the cutest?
I’ve popped in since the opening and it’s always got lots of people inside – hopefully this pop up shop will be staying for longer than 4 months because it’s got too many cute things in it to disappear so quickly!
Incase you’ve never heard of The Cambridge Satchel Company, they have the greatest start up story ever. Julie Deane and her mother started making the satchels in their kitchen back in 2008 so Julie could make some money to try and cover her children’s school fees. With only a £600 budget and some serious skills to pay the bills, their project went from strength to strength in the past 6 years and they now have over 70 employees and sell all over the world!
I’m really proud to say that Julie hasn’t lost touch with her roots too; not only does she still have all the products made in Great Britain, but she also came to the opening and spent her evening chatting with everyone who attended. What a treat! Needless to say that Julie is one heck of an inspiring lady and it’s so wonderful to see her still enthusiastic and supportive of not only her own company but the exciting new adventures her guests are involved in too. It’s not often you get to meet the founder of the company at the shop, that’s for sure! With such a great history it’s clear to see that this company will be around for a long time. Knowing that the products have such a great background and such amazing colours of bags, it’s no surprise Julie has garnered quite a following of committed fans!
I wore my fabulous new red beret Hello Strumpet fascinator with my cute hearts breton jumper from Sugarhill Boutique and high waisted Tara Starlet trousers to the event and picked out this amazing red leather mini satchel to match my outfit. Doesn’t it just go with what I wore perfectly? I now have my beady little eye on a few pieces which will be added onto my Christmas Wish List for sure. I’m pretty much head over heels for every thing hot pink and mustard yellow when it comes to accessorising at the moment, so putting together a list of my 5 favourite things has been quite the challenge. I managed to do it though heehee! If you’re looking for some gift inspiration, I really think these treats wont disappoint…
Leopard print! Tiny leather envelopes! And a giant purple trunk! I need to get me one of these so badly! But, despite my vibrant collection, the shop’s not just all bags and girlie colours; they have a really awesome collection for guys too, and they also stock some beautiful smaller (and more affordable) pieces like passport holders, bag charms and beautiful leather bound books.
As a little treat, I got this lovely purple leather keyring for my house keys, and the best bit ever is that they can emboss your initials on them, right in front of your eyes! I love the idea of having my initials on everything, but 9 times out of 10 the V always looks disappointing. I am yet to find a beautiful V mug for instance! When I got chatting to the staff in store I found out that not only could they do capital letters, but they have the little ones too… This to me is the greatest news of all time (don’t judge!) I doubt you’ve noticed by to Vs together often looks like a W which has nothing to do with little old me haha! So I decided to mix it up and get myself what I now like to refer to as the “Element of V’ – my favourite new way to monogram my initials. Hooray!! So if you’re ordering something for someone special, you can go all out and get it personalised for them too. Brilliant!
So, if you’re in Edinburgh and like what you see, make sure you hot foot it down to the store before it goes. And for those of you further away, you can still get a piece of the action in The Cambridge Satchel Company online shop. I’d love to hear what your top picks are!
Enjoy kicking it old school!
Thank you to The Cambridge Satchel Company for having me and to Will McGregor for the event images!
