Squeeeeeee! Edinburgh has just become home to a very adorable new cat cafe called Maison de Moggie and I am in love! After the UK launch of our first cat cafe in London last year, I’ve always been a bit disappointed that it was too far away to go pet the kitties when I’m having a long day. When I heard a while back that Edinburgh was going to be getting one of its own I was thrilled to bits and at last the waiting and excitement is over…
Bonjour Maison de Moggie!
Based in Stockbridge, this beautiful little blue cafe is home to 10 beautiful cats who just want to be stroked and loved all day long. The whole place has been built to keep them happy, safe and entertained, and it has been thoughtfully put together so the cats can roam around with lots of shelves to climb on, nooks to hide in and toys for them to play with. Although the cat’s may take naps, there is never a dull moment for visitors!
With a mixture of breeds including Bengals, Norwegian forrest and British Short Hairs, it’s really amazing to see these cats living in such sweet harmony. The venue itself is clean and bright and I’m super excited to have spotted that the cats have their own private bathroom, meaning no mess and an area for them to get peace and quiet should they be fed up with the people. How great is that? It’s great to see that so much thought and care has gone into the development of the cafe; there will be no sad kitties here.
When you arrive there are a few basic house rules for humans to adhere to; you an either take off your shoes or cover them in their little shoe protectors. No picking up and harassing the cats, no feeding them cake however tempted you may be! Other than that, you get taken to your table and given a number to use when placing food and drink orders and you’re free to roam around and play and pet till your hearts content… Personally, as soon as I arrived I formed an immediate bond with Guillaume, the most beautiful chinchilla persian cat I have ever laid eyes on. Unsurprisingly he is a complete diva and I am totally down with that!
To visit the cafe you need to book in advance to ensure your spot, although there are a couple of spaces reserved each hour for walk in customers. It costs £6 per person, per hour with the money going to the money going to the welfare and upkeep of the speciality cats, which is really reasonable once you see how happy the cats are and how great a facility it is for them. Being a cafe, you can also order drinks and cake at standard prices. I went for a really tasty carrot cake and blossom tea and they were delicious! As you pay to visit already, there is no pressure to spend any other money when inside which in my eyes is a good thing. If you decide to indulge like I did, you’ll be relieved to know that the food and drinks are all prepared in a cat free environment, so no need to worry about unwanted hairballs…
Seeing Guillaume sleep in a basket has pretty much made my life complete! If I ever get my hands on a kitty this cute, I know exactly what kind of bed I’ll be giving him to sleep in. Isn’t that the most adorable thing you’ve ever seen in all your days? Thought so. Being around cats and kittens is a sure way to relax and unwind, with everyone being so friendly inside it really is a great place to go chill out. One day I hope these things are prescribed by doctors for those of us who can’t keep cats in our homes – wouldn’t that be spectacular?
So, if you’re coming to Edinburgh, Maison de Moggie definitely needs to go on your to do list if you’re a cat fan. Let it be known that I have not been asked to write this post, I just went and fell in love!!
Will no doubt see you in there, perhaps even with bells on haha
